FROM NW 136TH STREET SOUTH TO SEVEN BRIDGES
The Platte City Special Road district will kick off the 2024 construction season with a half street improvement for Hwy. N from the NW 136th Street roundabout south to the Seven Bridges subdivision.
District spokesperson Frank Offutt, who serves as the project manager, shared that this year’s work focuses on improving the storm water drainage and road stabilization along 4300 feet of Hwy. N’s southbound lane.
“The road leading south from Platte City has maintained much of it’s ‘farm to market road’ appearance since the 1920s. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) assumed maintenance control in 1951.”
“A decade ago, MoDOT released a portion of Missouri Route “N” from its control and assigned the right-of-way back to Platte County. The elected county officials later approved the expansion of the Platte City Special Road District’s maintenance authority that included the former Missouri Route “N” from the southern city limits of Platte City, south to Missouri Route D. Hwy N will benefit from this year’s project,” Offutt said.
Since 1995 the Platte City Special Road District has undertaken a series of road improvement projects across the district, improving country farm roads to urban traffic corridors. This year’s special planned project marks the 101st public improvement since the program began.
Funding for annual maintenance and road improvements is supported by the district’s tax levy, with no funding from the federal, state or local county government. The road district approved the $1.026 million cost for SPP101 as part of the FY2024 budget.
Offutt said “Part of this year’s challenge is completing the road work while allowing patrons access to their homes and property. Superior-Bowen has been working closely with the special road district to keep one-lane of traffic moving along the entire road project.
Motorists can expect delays and should be aware that traffic patterns will change during this spring’s construction cycle.
Offutt said the elected officials and staff at the Platte City Special Road District “wish to extend our appreciation for the public’s patience allowing the contractor to accomplish the task before them.”
