45 Years Ago–April 27, 1979

The Platte County R-3 High School band students participated in the district music festival at Liberty on Saturday, March 31. The students received three I ratings and seven II ratings and six III ratings.


A 26-year-old man from Clay County and an inmate in the Platte County Jail escaped Wednesday evening by smashing out of a cell window and fleeing. He was being held on a charge of armed robbery. He used a piece of a bench he had broken to shatter the window. He was picked up later Wednesday night in the North Kansas City area. This is the second escape attempt since the new jail was put in service about two months ago.


The National Honor Society of North Platte High School, Dearborn, visited the Capitol Building in Jefferson City with Sen. Truman Wilson and their advisor, Mrs. Marilyn Harrington.


The new Platte County Car Wash in Platte City opened for business last Sunday. The owners are Danny Buckler and Gary Anderson of Weston. They also own a car wash at Weston. They have installed Livingston equipment in three inside, hand wand bays and one outside hand wand bay for trucks and large equipment. The car wash is located on Marshall Road (Watertower Hill) across from the Platte Medical Clinic.
