Platte City has a new city administrator. Ann Daniels of Gladstone was elected as the number one choice by the mayor and board of aldermen Tuesday night. The board had interviewed four candidates after a several month search by a consulting firm in Liberty. Daniels has a bachelors degree in public administration from Park College, 10 years of experience as mayor of Carrollton, Mo. and seven years as city administrator of Chillicothe and Fulton. “We hit the jackpot, said Platte City Mayor Pearl Brown.


Melissa Witt, 18, of Kansas City, North, has been sentenced to life in prison for the stabbing death of 64-year-old Ramona Brooks a year ago. Vic Peters, Platte County prosecuting attorney, said Witt had confessed to the killing and pleaded guilty in February of second degree murder. Her sentence was handed down Thursday by Platte County Circuit Court Judge Ward B. Stuckey. Authorities said Witt strangled, kicked and stabbed Brooks on March 14, 1993. Prosecutors said Witt wanted money to buy crack cocaine. Brooks was Witt’s neighbor in the 6300 block of Northwest 70th Street, Kansas City in Platte County. Brooks had paid Witt to help her with errands and had loaned her money.
