RESULTS LISTED FOR CONTESTED RACES THROUGHOUT PLATTE COUNTY
Turnout throughout Platte County was 11.7% as voters decided multiple issues and made decisions on contested races at Tuesday’s municipal election.
Among the notable outcomes, Platte County R-3 School District’s proposal to end the Proposition C tax levy rollback was approved. Meanwhile, the Northland Regional Ambulance District gained voter approval to nearly double its tax levy, with voters very narrowly passing an 81% increase in NRAD’s tax rate.
Here are results in contested races.
City of Platte City: Alderman Steve Hoeger defeated incumbent Tony Paolillo in the race for mayor. Hoeger pulled 309 votes to 203 for Paolillo, 60% to 40%
Platte County R-3 School District: The ballot question to end the Proposition C tax levy rollback was approved by voters by a count of 1854 in favor to 1269 opposed.
Platte County R-3 School Board: Top two vote getters elected:
*Matt Craine 1854,
*Incumbent Karen Bryant 1709
Kathy Schlimm also ran with 1399 votes.
Park Hill School Board: Top two vote getters elected.
*Harrison Todd 2367,
*Brandy Maaltbia Woodley 2224.
Also running was Sadie Peterson, 1586 votes.
Northland Regional Ambulance District proposed to increase its tax levy by 30 cents, from its current .3792 per $100 of assessed valuation to .6792. The question passed but by a narrow margin. The majority of opposition came in the Clay County portion of the district, where it was opposed by 53% of voters. In the Platte County portion of the district, the question carried 52% to 48% opposed.
Overall vote totals combining both counties in the NRAD district: Yes 2298, No 2284. A 14-vote margin of victory for the 81% increase in the ambulance district’s tax levy.
Central Platte Fire Protection District had two matters on the ballot. A question whether to increase its number of directors from three to five was passed by voters, with 1230 in favor (60%) in favor to 806 (40%) opposed.
Central Platte Fire elected four members for its board of directors. Vote totals in that race (top four elected):

Dearborn Fire Protection District had a contested race for a director position. It was won by Pat Downing with 151 votes, defeating Clinton Rhodes with 33.
City of Edgerton had a contested race for alderman, at-large. Four candidates were vying for two open spots. Vote totals are (top two elected):

City of Lake Waukomis had a contested race for alderman in the first ward between Guy Groves and Bob Shinogle. It was won by Shinogle with 67 votes over Groves with 21.
City of Weatherby Lake had two contested positions for its board of aldermen. For west ward, Rick Footer defeated Paula York by a count of 122 to 101. For east ward, Tyler Patterson defeated Tanya K. Finn 173 to 96.
City of Weston voters had a decision to make for ward two alderman. Joyce Burch defeated Jerry Gross 102 to 87.
Water Supply District No. 8 of Platte County approved $10 million in revenue bonds for extending and improving the waterworks system of the district. It was approved with 93 yes to only seven opposed.
