30 Years Ago–March 11, 1994

Mary Winn Hymer, 90, a linotype operator for about 40 years at The Landmark Newspaper, died Monday, March 7 at a Platte City health care center. Miss Hymer had learned the linotype as an apprentice operator at the Argus newspaper at Weston and came to The Landmark in the early 1930s. She was a lifelong Platte City resident. Services were Wednesday at Rollins Funeral Home in Platte City.


Sahara Parkville this week announced plans for more than 10 acres of community sports facilities to be constructed simultaneously with Sahara Parkville at English Landing. The facility will be 1.5 miles west of downtown Parkville, at the intersection of Union Chapel Road and Route FF. The complex will feature three lighted softball/baseball fields, two soccer fields, a picnic area, centrally located concession and restroom facilities. The design will also include bleachers and parking.


The snowstorm last week brought perfect conditions for building snowmen. Unfortunately for the builders, the warm weather that followed melted the creations by the end of the week. Shown putting on the finishing touches to their snowmen: Michelle, Brian and Tara Anderson of Camden Point.
