Another snow fell Thursday morning, covering up the dirty stuff we had scooped out of the roads, driveways and walks. We are getting a bit tired of weather records being broken this winter and are ready for normal weather and temperatures.


Ed Sr. and Artie Mae (Jacks) McMillan, native Platte Countians, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Jan. 14, 1979. They now live in Beaumont, Calif. Their children, Ed Jr., Jarry McMillan and Laura Sue Case and families honored them with a dinner at the famous Griswold’s Inn, Claremont, Calif.

Rita Oakes of Parkville has been named to the fall semester honor roll at Southwest Missouri State University.


The residents of Smithville Convalescent center will be rocking and rolling the day away on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14. You won’t see the bump or hustle being danced but you will see rocking chairs rocking and wheelchairs rolling.


Platte County is entering 1979 with a financial challenge, which is shared by most governments due to inflation. Their position is unique in as much as Platte County has spent its enviable cash position on the courthouse renovation project. The county will be operating on the remainder of that cash position and funds borrowed against 1979 anticipated revenue to back the 1979 budget.
