CAUSE OF DEATH ‘MAY BE SELF-INFLICTED,’ AUTHORITIES SAY
An inmate died inside the Platte County Jail on Thursday, Feb. 1, and early indications are the death may have been “self-inflicted,” authorities are saying.
According to the Platte County Sheriff’s Department, at about 3:50 p.m. on Feb. 1 staff members at the Platte County Detention Center responded to a non-responsive inmate in one of the housing units. “After attempting lifesaving measures the inmate was not responding to medical intervention and was declared deceased by medical personnel,” says Cpt. Jeffrey Shanks of the sheriff’s department.
Shanks said the incident is being investigated by detectives with the Platte County Sheriff’s Office. “The preliminary investigation indicates that the cause of death may be self-inflicted. The name of the deceased party is not being released at this time to allow for familial notifications,” Shanks said Friday afternoon.
