The Rancho Grande Cantina restaurant in Platte City was torn down this week to make way for a new Walgreens to be built at the corner of Running Horse Road and Platte Falls Road. The Walgreens will be just up the street from CVS Pharmacy in the Platte Valley Plaza. Walgreens is expected to open in November.


A small single engine plan crashed in a field near Waldron on Wednesday morning around 10;45 a.m. Two people were reportedly in the plane, described as an ultra light experimental aircraft, when it went down in a bean field in the Waldron area. Emergency crews on the scene were reporting the two people had suffered injuries that are not considered life threatening. One of the injured was taken away by air ambulance, the other by ground ambulance. The small plane took off from the nearby Noah’s Ark air field before crashing. The small airport is located in the river valley near the town of Waldron, which is located between Farley and Parkville along River Road.


The structure of the accounting department in Parkville has still not been set after a recent audit showed several flaws in the department, according to Mayor Gerry Richardson.


Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th president of the United States on Tuesday. He becomes the country’s first black president.
