Three men dead outside home in The Coves

KCPD LABELS DEATHS ‘SUSPICIOUS’

Kansas City police continue to investigate the circumstances of the deaths of three men at a home in The Coves, a housing subdivision near Barry Road in Platte County.

Police say the bodies were discovered just before 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9 in the 5200 block of NW 83rd Terrace, Kansas City in Platte County.

Captain Corey Carlisle with the KCPD says a reporting party went to the home looking for her fiancé. Police say when there was no answer at the door, the woman broke into the basement of the residence and located an unknown dead body on the back porch. Officers then responded to the back porch and upon further investigation located two other dead bodies in the back yard, Carlisle said.

In a message released to the media, police said “there were no obvious signs of foul play observed at or near the crime scene.”

Details about the exact state the bodies were found in or how long they had been outside have not been released by police.

A suspicious death investigation has been launched by the KCPD.

On Friday, police identified the victims as Ricky Johnson, 38; Clayton McGeeney, 36; and David Harrington, 37.

Neighbors told KMBC-TV that the home where the bodies were found is a rental property, and a man in his late 40s lives there.

KMBC-TV reported city records show the homeowner is from Denver, Colo. A tall, wooden fence surrounds the backyard, with gate access on both sides of the front of the home, the television station reported.

The north part of the backyard fence runs along Northwest Barry Road with no gate access and no sidewalk on that side of Barry.
