Last weekend will be remembered as one of the largest snowstorms ever to hit this area. It began snowing Friday evening and snowed all night, dumping from 12-14 inches of the white stuff on the ground, then Saturday high winds began blowing, causing massive drifts. Added to this inconvenience was sub-zero temperatures. Schools have been closed and numerous meetings postponed because of the weather. All available equipment has been used almost 24 hours a day to clear the roads and streets. The temperature began warming up some on Tuesday and the weatherman is predicting a freezing rain and ice storm for the area this weekend.
Toastmasters Knorthern Knights 3808 braved the snow for installation of officers on Jan. 9. Area Gov. Jim Daft and District Gov. Woody Allen conducted the ceremony. Traffic fatalities for 1978 in the 13-county Troop A area soared in comparison with the 1977 totals, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. A total of 108 persons were killed in traffic accidents in Troop A in 1978, as compared to only 84 in 1977.
