45 Years Ago–Jan. 12, 1979

Congressman Tom Coleman recently congratulated John Franklin Coldren of Weston on his nomination to West Point Military Academy. Coldren, a senior at West Platte R-2 High School, was nominated to attend the academy this coming fall after being interviewed by Coleman’s screen committee in December 1978. John is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Coldren.


Mr. and Mrs. Steve Perry of Clovis, New Mexico announce the birth of their daughter, Christine Michelle, on Dec. 29. the maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Sam Higgins, Dearborn, and the paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Herb Perry, Platte City.


Spelman Memorial Hospital, Smithville, opens the doors of its three-story addition at 1 p.m on Sunday, Jan. 14 for a three hour open house to display the facility planned and built to deliver health care efficiently now and through the remainder of this century.


Sharen K. Hunt has been named University of Missouri You Specialist for the Kansas City Metropolitan Extension Area. Al Black area director, said Mrs. Hunt will be assigned to the University of Missouri Extension Center in Platte County. Mrs. Hunt replaces Stanley Roskoski. She will work with other youth specialists in the five-county area to conduct University of Missouri Extension Youth and 4-H programs.
