From the Between the Lines column by Ivan Foley: Approximately 15-20 homes in Platte City were without water for about two hours Monday afternoon when a water main broke at the intersection of Hwy. 92 and Second Street. Doug Knox, public works director for the city, reports the six inch main “cracked like somebody sawed it.” It broke at a weak spot in a joint, he said. Some houses on both sides of the highway were affected by the break.


David and Katheryn Castagno of Smithville announce the birth of their son on Dec. 10, 1993. He has been named Jacob Andre.


Mrs. Carl C. Donnelli is pleased to announce the engagement of her daughter, Sarah Elizabeth, to Kevin Lindsay Hampl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Delmar L. Hampl of Russell, Kan.


The Platte County Commission approved signing the sponsorship agreement for Bean Lake. The agreement is between Platte County and the Bean Lake Levee Board for the levee repair.


Rick and Julie Hanny are proud parents of a baby boy. Reid Michael was born on Dec. 9, 1993.
