Subject of Silver Alert found dead in car

DISCOVERED IN RURAL PLATTE COUNTY

A “missing endangered alert” put out by the Kansas City Police Department last week ended in the discovery of the missing man deceased.

KCPD had issued a Silver Alert for William M. Jensen, age 70, of Kansas City last week. The alert said Jensen was last seen on Saturday, Dec. 23 at about 8:30 a.m. in the area of NW Prairie View Dr. and NW Transcon Drive, Kansas City in Platte County. He had been observed in his 2005 Toyota 4-door gold Rav 4. The alert noted Jensen “has medical conditions that require care.”

A later alert distributed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol described Jensen’s diagnosed medical conditions as “heart disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.”

Kansas City police on Sunday, Dec. 31 morning announced that Jensen had been located deceased on Saturday night, Dec. 30.

“During a search by detectives and our police helicopter his vehicle was located in rural Platte County near the area of Hwy. N and Baker Road,” said Sgt. Jake Becchina of the KCPD.

Becchina said Jensen’s vehicle was found a large distance off the roadway in a wooded area and appeared to have been involved in a crash. Jensen was dead inside the vehicle, police say.

Becchina said the Platte County Sheriff’s Office responded as well for assistance and completed the crash report. The sheriff’s office will be handling the investigation into the crash and the death, he said.
