He has the top job and a new baby. Mike Reik was announced as the new Platte County R-3 superintendent to take over after the retirement of Mark Harpst at the end of June. Reik is currently assistant superintendent in the district and will begin the job of superintendent on July 1, 2009. Reik will receive an annual salary of $125,000. His wife, Ashley, gave birth on Wednesday night to a son. Sayer Michael Reik was born at Saint Luke’s Northland Hospital. This is the first child for the Reik family.


Changes are coming to the assessor’s office of Platte County. The county commission awarded a bid for remodeling of the assessor’s office to Glen Rogers Construction. According to Lisa Pope, assessor, the total price of the bid and the first alternate is $90,060. The project will remodel the office and will also move cords currently stretching across the floor into conduits for improved worker safety. Pope said the first alternate project is to install new carpet in her office to match the rest of the office.


Water rates and sewer rates are on the way up in the City of Tracy. The rate per 1,000 gallons of water will increase by 75 cents and the sewer charge will increase by $2.50 per month. Both increases will take effect on Jan. 1, 2009 and be applied to bills after that time.
