Platte City has a new alderman, and also a new board president. At a board of aldermen meeting Tuesday night, former alderman Aaron Jung was appointed and Andy Stanton was voted to be the new board president. Jung previously served on the board from April 2006 to April of this year.


A man was struck and injured by a train just north of Weston. The Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) train was headed north when it struck a BNSF employee near the Iatan Power Plant. The man was struck by the guardrail on the locomotive while working near the tracks. He was taken to a hospital by helicopter. The man’s name and condition were not available as of Landmark deadline.


Platte County Sheriff’s Deputy Erik Holland was pictured shopping with Dalton, 9, of Kansas city on Saturday at Walmart during the Shop With a Cop program. The program allows children who qualify to spend up to $250 shopping for gifts and for clothes for Christmas.


One week away from the school board’s target date for hiring the district’s next superintendent, there remains speculation the top choice is already in the Platte County R-3 School District. Dr. Mike Reik, age 36, a current assistant superintendent for the school district, is known to be on the short list of candidates for the job. Reik has worked in the district for eight years.
