Smokers can still light up in Parkville. Patrons of Parkville restaurants and bars can still smoke after the board of aldermen voted against a proposed smoking ban. The final vote by aldermen on the ordinance was five opposed and three in favor of the ban.

Platte City now has a vacancy on the board of aldermen after Todd Sloan, board president, resigned his elected position on Monday. Sloan submitted his resignation and a replacement alderman will be sought to fill the term until the April election. Sloan told The Landmark that he was married on Oct. 24 so he and his new wife have been combining households and she lives in Leawood. “I now have a 13-year-old step-son and we elected to live in Leawood,” said Sloan.
