45 Years Ago–Nov. 24, 1978

John Fisher and Greg Sager were among the 260 Scouts to receive Eagle Scout badges Sunday afternoon, Nov. 5, in ceremonies of the Heart of America Council at the Music Hall in Kansas City. Jude H. Townsend Hader, of the Lafayette County Magistrate Court, addressed the Scouts and presented the badges.


Missouri will begin lobbying in Washington, D.C. for more federal grant money when the state formally opens an office in the Hall of States building there. Gov. Joe Teasdale recently picked a Chicago man, Theodore H. Bornstein, to head the state’s office in Washington. Bornstein, 29, formerly held a similar position for the state of Illinois.


Mr. and Mrs. Jack Coons of Platte City announce the birth of their daughter, Jaclynne Leigh, on Nov. 14, 1978 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kansas City. They returned home Saturday. The maternal grandparents are Dr. and Mrs. Henry J. Miller and the paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Coons, Jr., all of Platte City.


William Thomas Poteet, Sr., 78, of Platte Woods, died Saturday at the home. Mr. Poteet served two terms as mayor from 1974 to April 1978 and earlier had served a term as alderman.
