30 Years Ago–Nov. 19, 1993

The North Metro Drug and Gang Task Force served warrants on 57 people in Platte and Clay counties last Wednesday. Captain Greg Crader of the Platte County Sheriff’s Department reported 19 warrants were for people in Platte County. The task force has been making annual drug sweeps since 1988. Crader said the department also has two officers involved in a KCI interdiction detail that confiscated 30,000 pounds of marijuana at the airport last week. Around $30 million worth of drugs has been confiscated since 1987.


A rezoning request for a 35 acre tract in the southeast corner of I-435 and Hwy. 45 was tabled by the Platte County Commission Tuesday. This the first development officially considered in this area.


These deer hunters got lucky on the first day of the season. Open season for 1993 is Nov. 13 through Nov. 21. Harold Willoughby, with H&W Guns, said the number of deer checked in the first weekend was down about 60 from the 360 checked in last year at Platte City and Weston.


Shannon Smither and Richard Wilson announce the birth of their son, Richard Liam Cozmo Wilson, Nov. 8, 1993 at North Kansas City Hospital. He weighed 8 lbs., 4.9 oz. and was 21 inches long.
