Dagmar Wood, commissioner, will run for assessor next year

HER COMMISSION TERM ENDS DECEMBER 2024

Dagmar Wood, currently serving as Platte County’s first district commissioner, has announced her intention to run for Platte County assessor in the August and November 2024 elections.

Wood had informed county department heads and fellow officeholders of her decision last week, The Landmark was told. She sent out an official press release with the announcement late Monday.

In her press release, Wood says:

“As commissioner, Wood spearheaded implementation of Senate Bill 190 in Platte County, which freezes the amount senior citizens pay in property taxes, giving them much-needed tax relief. Passage of the ordinance is expected to be effective early 2024.”

Her press release continues:

“If elected, my priority will be to restore respectful treatment to all who reach out to the assessor’s office. I have a proven record of fighting for Platte County taxpayers. When I noticed that several homeowners were given only the weekend to appeal their valuation increases, I lobbied our state legislature to give them more time. There is now a state law requiring at least a month’s notice.”

She goes on to say:

“Some of my other accomplishments in office have been:
•Appointed a taxpayer-friendly Board of Equalization to hear homeowners’ valuation appeals
•Won a court case protecting county taxpayers from paying a $20-40 million bond shortfall
•Supported increased law enforcement funding
•Eliminated positions resulting in a $1 million savings
•Worked to educate voters, and with their approval, realigned a 1/2 cent sales tax to support both parks and law enforcement with no tax increase
•Worked to educate voters, and with their approval, decreased roads sales tax, while protecting Platte County municipalities’ and road districts’ share of funding”

Wood has a master of public administration degree and was formerly an analyst at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.

Currently, Wood serves as commissioner in southern Platte County, and is working as a commercial real estate specialist.

Wood has four children between the ages of 18 and 25 and has been a Platte County resident for 35 years.

She says she is running in the Aug. 6, 2024 Republican Primary and the Nov. 5, 2024 General Election.

Her term as commissioner ends December of 2024.
