45 Years Ago–Oct. 20, 1978

Platte County R-3 AFS sponsors 9th antique show in Platte City on Oct. 21 and 22 at the high school gym, their biggest show ever. They will offer 45 booths of antiques, collectibles and primitives, with all items being for sale. The show, held each October and March to support the AFS (American Field Service) project, has grown since it was initiated in 1973, with over 2,000 people attending last year. Having outgrown the gymnasium, the show has expanded into three of the corridors.


Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lamar of Platte City announce the engagement and wedding date of their daughter, Lori Lynn, to Steve Willis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Willis of Weston. An Oct. 28 wedding is scheduled at the Hillsboro Christian Church at 4 p.m. A reception will be held immediately following.


The Platte City Pirates capped the Platte City High School Homecoming festivities with a 27-2 win over North Platte Panthers last Friday night. Mark Miller had 129 yards rushing on 18 carries. He lost a couple of touchdowns and a possible 200-yard rushing night due to penalties. Shane Bridger ran three times for 51 yards rushing and Chuckie Brown carried 16 times for 93 yards.


Airman Franklin S. Owen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin D. Owen of Dearborn has been selected for technical training at Holloman AFB in New Mexico in the Air Force fuel field.
