30 Years Ago–Oct. 14, 1993

The recent Missouri Vocational Association conference awards banquet, Joanne Hamilton was presented the Outstanding Basic Skills Instructor of the Year by the Missouri Vocational Special Needs Association. Mrs. Hamilton was cited for her innovative techniques teaching students with disabilities.


Allison Clark was crowned the 1993 Platte County R-3 Homecoming queen at halftime of Friday night’s football game between the Pirates and the Cameron Dragons. Allison is the granddaughter of Delores McDonnell.


Park Hill Superintendent of Schools Harold Gaarde has announced his plans for retirement, effective Jan. 1, 1995. He made the announcement at the regular meeting of the Park Hill Board of Education on Sept. 23. Dr. Gaarde has been with the district since the 1988-89 school year. At the conclusion of his contract with the school district, Gaarde will be 62 years old.


Students at West Platte High School will make their choice for homecoming king and queen from these candidates this Friday. Queen candidates are Sarah Catron, Rone Novotny, Samantha Norris, Amy Mouden,
Tara Knox, and Laura Juergens. King candidates are Jim Shipman, Randall Masoner, Justin Webb, Noland D. Taylor, Brandin Raney and Danny Smith.
