Insurance coverage for the Zed Martin Day festival will be provided by the City of Platte City, thanks to a resolution passed by the city’s board of aldermen at a meeting Tuesday night. The annual Zed Martin Day celebration is set for Saturday, Oct. 9. Platte City’s Main Street Association is the sponsoring organization of the celebration.


Michael Freye has resigned as chief of police at Parkville, a position he held for 15 years. Differences over management style were cited as reasons for the resignation. City officials have indicated they want the police department to focus less on such areas as traffic enforcement and more on community relations.


Dearborn Community Betterment Association is sponsoring its annual community-wide garage sales Sept. 16-18. There will be many individual garage sales in town and the surrounding areas.


Citicorp Credit Services, Inc. on Friday broke ground for a new 132,000 sq. ft. building at Air World Center near the Kansas City International Airport. The new facility will enable Citicorp to add 500 new jobs to its existing 700 person work force in the area. The new site, located on 22 acres, will also provide ample space for future expansion that could mean up to 1,200 new jobs in Kansas City. Citicorp Credit Services, the largest of Citicorp’s eight card collections sites in the U.S., opened in Kansas City in 1986 with about 30 employees.
