30 Years Ago–Sept. 10, 1993

Helen Frances Parker and William L. Newcomb, Jr., were married May 8, 1993 at the Calvary Episcopal Church in Columbia. The Parker family formerly lived in Platte City. The Rev. Tamsen E. Whistler performed the double ring ceremony for the daughter of Mary Caroline Wilson Parker of Columbia and the late Dr. H. Graham Parker, and the son of the late William L. Newcomb Sr. and the late Bess Denman Newcomb. The bride is a graduate of the Sunset Hill School in Kansas City. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Smith College and a law degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. The groom is a graduate of University City High school in University City. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a law degree from Washington University in St. Louis.


Team signups for mens 18 and over seven on seven flag football is currently going on at the Clay-Platte YMCA. Games will be eight weeks beginning Saturdays in October, with awards given to the first place team.


Youth group from Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Weston poses for a picture at Loveland Pass in Colorado. The group attended the special mass by Pope John Paul at the World Youth Day ‘93 on Aug. 15 in Denver. Of the 500,000 attending, this group was one of the first chosen to go on the 14 mile pilgrimage with the pope to Cherry Creek National Park.
