30 Years Ago–Aug. 27, 1993

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin C. Perkins of Kansas City proudly announce the engagement of their daughter Stacey Lou, to Tyson C. Sampson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert T. Sampson of Platte City. Upon Sampson’s return from an extended military tour of Central and South America, the newly-engaged couple enjoyed three weeks together, away from their careers, for wedding arrangements and engagement celebrations. Brunch at the Bristol and a dinner at the Robert T. Sampson home of Platte City. They plan a Sept. 24, 1994 wedding at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Kansas City, Mo.


Clay McGinnis, of Independence, news editor of The Landmark for the past 13 years, died Friday, Aug. 20 at North Kansas City Hospital following open heart surgery. McGinnis, age 63, had been on vacation from the newspaper since Aug. 9. He went in for annual tests on his heart last week and underwent surgery Friday after tests revealed problems. In 1985, he had undergone a triple bypass. McGinnis had served as Landmark editor since 1980. Ivan Foley, Landmark general manager/reporter, will now also assume duties as editor.


Mr. and Mrs. Jim Lance, Sr. will celebrate their 25th anniversary on Aug. 26. Friends and relatives are invited as they renew their wedding vows this Sunday, Aug. 29 from 2-4 p.m. at the New Market Christian Church.
