The Main Street Association of Platte City has decided that the Christmas lighting ceremony will be Nov. 27 at 6 p.m. The decision came at a meeting last week. The lighting is made possible through the association and various fundraisers sponsored by them. The major moneymaker for the project is the “Old Fashioned Barn Dance.” The association also heard from Platte City Mayor Pearl Brown as she reported that the state had informed her that the intersection at Second and Hwy. 92 did not qualify for a traffic signal. The state has agreed to assist in a study to determine what measures can be taken

Supporters of a proposed ambulance district for northwestern Clay and northeastern Platte County are still trying to gather signatures to put the issue on the ballot in November. The group hopes to have the petitions ready to deliver to the county election board by Friday at 5 p.m. Early this week supporters reported they still needed about 250 signatures.

The Platte City Board of Aldermen discussed a recycling grant that the city is in hopes of receiving. The grant monies would total $4,000 which would be used to construct a building in which to store the recyclable goods. Council member Diane Beck asked if the money received through the grant would be used strictly for recycling. “I am kind of the consumer’s advocate. I want the money to be used for what it was intended,” stated Beck.
