TWO CHARGED AFTER INCIDENT
A woman is accused of firing a shot into a restaurant at Northmoor, striking a restaurant employee in the foot.
The incident occurred on Saturday, July 8 around 5:20 p.m. at a Mexican restaurant in the Vivion West strip mall at Northmoor. Authorities say a dispute over a food order preceded the shooting.
Two women are charged in connection with the incident. One of those charged is the alleged shooter and the other is her friend who was with her.
The alleged shooter, Renyshia Handson, is charged with unlawful use of a weapon. Many media reports have listed her age as 29 but online court records viewed by The Landmark indicate her age as 25. She is being held on a cash-only bond of $100,000.
Her friend, Aaliyah Kidd, 21, is charged with assault in the third degree with a bond of $5,000.
Online court records indicate Kidd and Handson reside at the same address in Kansas City in Platte County.
According to allegations in court documents, Handson and Kidd ordered their food at the cash register counter, then sat at a table to wait. Once they received their food, Kidd was not satisfied with the order and an argument with restaurant staff ensued.
Kidd was telling one of restaurant employees about the issue but due to a language barrier the employee had difficulty understanding what Kidd was saying. Allegedly Kidd told the employees to call the police because she “was about to kick their ass,” according to court documents.
Authorities say Kidd then reached across the counter with her cell phone in her hand and assaulted one of the employees. Kidd then swept her food container and other items from the counter onto the floor, while verbally threatening employees. Allegedly Kidd continued to verbally assault employees while she was walking out of the restaurant. Handson stayed behind and several of the employees attempted to push her out of the restaurant.
Handson then allegedly pulled a handgun out of the front of her waistband and allegedly threatened to pistol whip employees who were trying to get her out of the restaurant.
Kidd was already outside the front of the restaurant when a worker passed through the inner foyer door headed toward the front door. Authorities alleged Handson was behind the worker and allegedly pointed her gun at the back of the worker’s head, raised the gun and appeared to strike the worker in the back with the butt of the gun.
Handson then went around the worker and walked out the front door. A worker who was using a cell phone to video record the incident was standing in the interior side of the foyer door and another worker was standing in the open doorway of the front door when Handson, who was outside, allegedly turned around and fired a shot into the business.
The bullet missed the victim who was in the doorway, passed through the foyer door and struck the other employee in the left foot, “causing an abrasion,” according to court documents.
Authorities say Handson and Kidd then left the restaurant and walked over to another business. Officers from the Riverside Police Department arrived, observed the suspects and detained them.
Both suspects remain in custody in the Platte County Jail as of Wednesday morning. Handson’s next court appearance is set for July 18.
At a hearing on Tuesday, July 11, bond for Kidd was modified to allow for a 10% cash option. Kidd’s next court appearance is Aug. 15.
