Scammers and fraudsters and such. Those guys never rest and are always looking for a way to get in your pocket. This just in from some of our local police friends.
The Platte City Police Department has been notified of scam calls using (spoofing) the police department’s telephone number. The caller identifies themselves as a Platte City police officer and will claim you have a warrant for your arrest. The caller will ultimately request money over the phone to satisfy the warrant.
Platte City police say they will never request money over the telephone to satisfy a warrant. Arrest warrants are never satisfied using Google Play Gift Cards or any other type of gift cards that are commonly requested by scammers.

No local shotgun range after July 1. It’s part of another quick news nugget just for you and you and you.
The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) says that on July 1 it will permanently close the shotgun-only target range at the Platte Falls Conservation Area east of Platte City in Platte County. Environmental concerns are prompting closure of the range, though in its announcement MDC didn’t get specific about what exactly those environmental concerns are.
MDC says it will explore other opportunities for a shotgun range in the Kansas City area. Meanwhile, MDC’s Lake City Shooting Range near Blue Springs is staffed and offers trap, skeet, and five-stand shotgun ranges along with pistol and rifle ranges. Lake City also has a range for patterning shotguns at still targets.
MDC notes that it also provides a public shotgun range at the Pigeon Hill Conservation Area south of St. Joseph in Buchanan County, just north of Platte County.

Credit to Joe Vanover, second district commissioner, who put the word out about this log cabin and his desire to find a valuable community use for a property that county taxpayers (through the park tax) had invested $1 million in. Vanover’s effort–and the log cabin itself–were the subject of a November 2021 feature story in The Landmark written by Valerie Verkamp.

He has basically zero chance of getting the Republication nomination but I am enjoying listening to Chris Christie talk. He is the only Republican candidate who isn’t afraid to go after Trump, and that makes his speeches and interviews quite interesting and entertaining. For the record, he also goes after Biden, of course.
“They are past their ‘sell by’ dates. It’s over. It’s done,” Christie said about Trump and Biden last week.
Rolling Stone magazine is reporting that earlier this year Donald Trump sent some of his lawyers and political advisors on a “small fact finding mission” to try to find out what Mark Meadows is doing. According to Rolling Stone, it seems Team Trump suspects that Meadows, Trump’s former chief of staff, is a “rat,” as they say in some circles.
Months ago, according to Rolling Stone, Meadows and his lawyer cut all communications with the Trump circle. So Trump and the attorneys he never listens to and reportedly rarely pays are wondering just how much information Meadows has given the feds as they probe the former president over his hoarding of government documents.
Friends and family members of Meadows might be worrying he’ll end up Clintoned or suicided.
June 19, or Juneteenth, became an official federal holiday in 2021 and a Missouri state holiday last year. Still not a holiday at the County of Platte offices, apparently, as the county commission held a meeting that day.
Another news nugget: Tammy Thompson of Platte County has been appointed by Gov. Mike Parson to the State Board of Pharmacy. Thompson currently serves as a clinical pharmacist for OptumRX. She previously served as pharmacy manager at Kmart Pharmacy. Thompson is a licensed pharmacist in both Missouri and Kansas, with certifications in immunizations, medication therapy management, and diabetes care and education. She holds a bachelor of science in pharmacy from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Pharmacy.
Made my first-ever trip to Gladstone’s Linden Square last Friday night to hear the Eagles tribute band known as Lyin Eyes. I came way impressed, not just with Lyin Eyes (have seen them multiple times, so knew that would be good) but also with Linden Square. What a classy outdoor community venue for live music. Extremely clean. Comfortable. Indoor restrooms. A variety of drinks available for purchase, including alcohol if you’re in the mood for it. Grilled burgers and dogs available for purchase. Just a fine outdoor experience.
