The new Whataburger restaurant located at the intersection of N. Ambassador Drive and NW Skyview, Kansas City in Platte County, is scheduled to open on Monday, June 26 with drive-thru service. Company officials say the new location will open at 11 a.m. on Monday with 24/7 drive-thru service only for now. Typically, Whataburger chooses to start as drive-thru only at locations where it anticipates long lines of customers. Dining room access, curbside pickup, online ordering and delivery will begin in the coming weeks.
It will be the first Whataburger to open in Platte County. This Whataburger, exact address 8851 N. Ambassador, is owned and operated by the franchise group that includes Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The restaurant will feature a Kansas City Chiefs game day jersey and a plaque featuring the number 15 — Mahomes’ jersey number.
It is in a 3,700 square foot building next to the First Watch restaurant at the location, in a development known as Tiffany Square East. Tiffany Square East is the final phase of Tutera’s 14-acre development which began in 2016. Tutera completed a three-phase 300 unit senior living community in early 2020. Whataburger and First Watch complete the west portion of the final four acres.
Mahomes’ group–known as KMO Burger franchise–also plans to open a Whataburger in the 9100 block of Hwy. 45 in Parkville later this year, basically across Hwy. 45 from Price Chopper.
