The break-ins occurred in the very early morning hours of Wednesday, June 7, shortly after midnight.

First came a report of a break-in at 12:35 a.m. at the Honest Spirits and Tobacco location at 2409 NW Prairie View Road. Upon arrival of officers from the Platte City Police Department, police found forced entry had been made by breaking glass near the front door. No suspects were found inside or near the business, says Sgt. Mike Mand, public information officer for Platte City Police Department.

As a result of that burglary, police conducted a check of other local businesses and at 1:20 a.m. found that forced entry had been gained by breaking glass at the Worlds Liquors store at 1302 Platte Falls Road.

Liquor was taken at both locations. Police said a small amount of cash was taken from a register at Honest Spirits, described as “start of the business day” amount of cash.

Mand said security video is being reviewed. He said it appears burglars “were in real quick, grabbed some bottles and then out.”

On June 9, Mand said both stores are still conducting inventory to determine losses. He said the investigation is ongoing and the incidents may be linked to other similar break-ins that have occurred across the Kansas City metro.
