The Platte City Parks and Recreation Board on Monday had to postpone its meeting because the board could not get a quorum of members. The meeting was postpone until Monday, May 12 at 6:30 p.m. According to John Kurtz, board president, the agenda will include discussion of proposed swimming pool programs.


Kansas City Mayor Mark Funkhouser and Councilman Russ Johnson spoke to the Platte County Pachyderm Club on Thursday night. The mayor spoke about his idea for a regional light rail plan to cover the Kansas City metro area. “If you live in Platte City you’ll probably not get trains there, but we can change the way we do other forms of transit,” said Funkhouser. Funkhouser said the city could expand the bus service if there was a central light rail system.

Several train cars were blown over in Riverside during a storm Thursday night. The five train cars were on a second rail near the I-635 overpass when they were blown over. The cars also knocked over a power line, which meant Park Hill South High School, Park University, and part of downtown Parkville did not have power for a large part of Friday.


David Olson of Olsson Associates has been hired by the City of Parkville to act as interim city administrator after the recent resignation of Joe Turner. Also, the city created a new position titled assistant city administrator and then promoted Sean Ackerson to that position.
