PEFORMANCES SET TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY
Platte County High School Theatre Department presents the commedia dell’arte play “The Servant of Two Masters,” held Tuesday through Thursday, April 25-27 at 7 p.m. in the high school’s Wilson Theater.
Tickets are available at www.pchstheatre.com for $10 each. Tickets will also be sold at the door for $10 (cash only, no cards).
The translated version contains all the charm of the original work written in 1746 by Italian playwright Carlo Goldoni. When the delightful servant Truffaldino becomes embroiled in the problems of two sets of lovers, he gets more than he bargained for. This translation is a full script written after the height of commedia troupe performances, with comedic bits (lazzi) still included as well as improvised lines from the actors (who are playing actors on stage as a traveling troupe of players).
“The Servant of Two Masters” is a high-energy, zany love story, and when all of these different, larger-than-life characters collide, you won’t want to look away for a second.
Anyone who loves comedy, particularly physical comedy, will love this performance. Historically, actors in commedia dell’arte would combine the traits of their characters with their own comedic skills to create lazzi (comedic moments). In line with the tradition of commedia dell’arte, the choreography for physically comedic bits will be inspired by each individual actor for this production and is often improvised in the moment which is fitting with the style.
Cast members include Sam Ragone (senior), Natalie Shepherd (senior), Lauren Talley (senior), Finley Penington (freshman), Lucas Valverde (junior), Kaitlyn Seim (sophomore), Lacey Franksen (senior), Kaiser Sutton (senior), David Sellers (junior), Charlotte Sweet (freshman), Sofia Ramos (junior), Annabelle Sweet (senior), Iva Petrova (senior), Cole Duncan (sophomore), Cole Archer (freshman), Noah Smiley (freshman), Hansen Karlberg (freshman), Sam Young (senior), Aidan Lindsay (sophomore), April Bobowski (senior), Paul Wright (freshman), and Kendall Heckman (sophomore).
Students have been working on and off stage to produce this show since the end of February. Student designers are in charge of designing all aspects of the show under the supervision of PCHS Theatre staff. The design concept for this show is made to look like a colorful traveling circus that has a mix of modern day and 1700’s elements.
