RIVERSIDE AND NORTHMOOR PASS TAX ON RECREATIONAL WEED
School board elections were held in three districts in the county, and voters in a few cities in the county–including Riverside and Northmoor–said yes to taxing recreational marijuana.
Those were some of the ballot highlights from Tuesday’s municipal elections held across Platte County. Voter turnout throughout the county was 14.73 percent.

PLATTE COUNTY R-3 SCHOOL BOARD
Two incumbents were among five candidates on the ballot for three open spots. One incumbent, Sharon Sherwood, was successful, the other, Bobby Vann, was not. Elected were Amy MacCuish, Tyler Fadler and Sherwood.

CITY OF RIVERSIDE
Riverside voters by a wide margin approved a three percent sales tax on recreational marijuana sales within the city limits.
It was approved with 132 votes in favor to only 50 opposed, 73% to 27%.
The constitutional amendment legalizing adult use recreational marijuana was passed by voters in Missouri last fall. More than 30 municipalities in the Kansas City metro considered ballot questions on a marijuana sales tax on Tuesday.
The three percent local sales tax is in addition to all other state and local sales taxes already in place. The three percent sales tax approved by voters only applies to adult-use/recreational use. Medical marijuana is not impacted by this change.
CITY OF NORTHMOOR
Voters in the City of Northmoor in southern Platte County also approved a three percent sales tax on recreational marijuana. It was approved with 29 votes in favor to seven opposed, 81% to 19%.
There was also a contested race for three spots on the Northmoor Board of Aldermen. Top three vote-getters elected.

CITY OF WEATHERBY LAKE
There were two contested races for alderman spots at Weatherby Lake.
West Ward: Doug Richmond defeated Paula York, 141 to 60.
East Ward: Wilbur Stuhlman defeated Russell Monuski 142 to 121.
