Scott Spangler, county commissioner, and Platte County Sheriff Tom Thomas install a “Buckle up, please” sign at the entrance tot he driveway at the Platte County Administration Building in Platte City. It was part of a campaign launched in 1992 to get more people to use their safety belts.


A shot at the buzzer by sophomore reserve Zac Wegner lifted the Platte County Pirates to a 58-56 victory in a barn-burner against North Platte on Monday night in Platte City. The Pirates are now 6-2.


A fourth quarter rally lifted the Platte County Lady Pirates to a 51-41 win in the KCI Conference regular season opener Friday night at Cameron against the Lady Dragons. The Lady Pirates’ record now stands at 4-4, 1-0 in league games.


Plans are complete for the second annual Platte County R-3 Booster Club three-on-three basketball tournament set for Saturday, Jan. 9. All proceeds from the event will be used to help the booster club meet its pledge of $2,000 toward putting lights on the high school baseball field.
