Kansas City Sand & Gravel, L.L.C., is proposing a new “mining” operation in Platte County in the river bottom near Waldron. Some residents in the area are resisting the proposal. The proposed operation would be in the Missouri River bottom along Moore’s Ferry Road on approximately 1,400 acres currently owned by the JoDill Corp. “There are a number of issues to be resolved first,” said Douglas Baker, Kansas City Sand & Gravel attorney. “We have meetings scheduled with planning and zoning and the Department of Transportation this week. We also have meetings scheduled with property owners to try to work something out.”

The Platte City Board of Aldermen approved an agreement with the Kitty Cat Connection (KCC), an agreement that allows KCC to provide services for animal control of cats in the city. City funds in the amount of $2,500 will be given to the organization for their efforts.

A familiar face in Parkville is vying to become the city’s next mayor. Gerry Richardson, current Ward 4 alderman, announced among family and friends that he is running for the position.

Parkville’s annual Christmas on the River celebration will be held on Friday, Nov. 30 in downtown Parkville. It will feature the classic downtown lighting ceremony with Bill Grigsby, the “Prince of Parkville.”
