The Platte County Sheriff’s Department responded to the Green Hills Nature Sanctuary between Parkville and Riverside along Hwy 9 Saturday to find a dead body. Deputies found the body of a 47-year-old Lake Waukomis man around 11 p.m. Saturday night. Authorities say the man had likely been dead for three to four hours before the body was found by a passerby. Officials say it appears the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the right temple. The man’s car was found at the entrance to the park. No suicide note was found. The park is operated by the Platte County Parks and Recreation Department and is only open from dawn to dusk.
No final decision has been made but remarks by some county officials indicate no added security measures are planned at the Platte County Courthouse despite a recent suicide by gunshot in the building. “At this time we’re not looking at a change to security,” said Tom Pryor, first district commissioner. “The final report is not in from the sheriff’s department about our security measures. It seems impractical to be able to secure the entire building and also cost prohibitive.”
Tails wagged, tongues panted and dog clothes were modeled at the second annual Paws in the Park event held Saturday at the English Landing Park in Parkville. The Friends of the Parkville Animal Shelter (FOPAS) hosted the dog walk festival and fundraiser.
