45 Years Ago–September 2, 1977

The second annual American Cancer Society Benefit Slow Pitch Softball Tournament was held last weekend in Platte City. This benefit netted $610 for the Platte County unit, which will be turned over to the Cancer Society as a memorial gift for the late Harrel Ferrel.


The Platte City Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a sidewalk sale and flea market on Saturday, Sept. 24 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Any individual who would like to set up a booth contact John Patton or Larry Reineke.


Following the Pirates’ first home football game tonight, Sept. 2, with Richmond, there will be a disco party at the high school gym with Hoot Gibson, DJ. There will be dancing from 10 until midnight.


Kenneth Farr and Juanita Springer were united in marriage Saturday night in the Christian Church courtyard by the Rev. Jim Scrivener. Kenneth is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Byron Farr of Tracy and Juanita is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Springer of Camden Point.


Mrs. Shirley Hill, Mrs. Linda Collars and Isabelle Blakely surprised Mrs. Ruth Courtney Sunday afternoon for her birthday meeting at the lodge hall and having ice cream and cake for 32 members of their families. Gifts were received and best wishes extended to Ruth.
