Authorities said Vasquez pulled the car over about 10:40 a.m. near 21st Avenue and Clay Street in North Kansas City. The driver allegedly got out of the vehicle and began firing upon the officer, then drove away headed west.

Vasquez was transported to a hospital by ambulance and then transported to University of Kansas Health System in Kansas City, Kansas.
Various law enforcement agencies responded to the scene at word of the shooting, including at least one squad care from the Riverside Police Department.
