Dr. Mark Harpst says he won’t serve beyond his current contract at Platte County R-3, which expires in two years. He will be on the job at R-3 no longer than that. Of that much he is certain. “In August of 2009 I will be doing something other than being superintendent 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” Harpst told The Landmark this week.

Kids often cool down during hot summer nights at the courtyard area at Zona Rosa by running through the fountains that spew an intermittent blast. Their parents were taking in the sounds of the old-time rock group known as The Croatians on Saturday evening. Zona Rosa is located at I-29 and Barry Road.

The Riverside aldermen used considerable time to discuss the city’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) for 2007-2012 at a meeting last week. “It’s a long range planning tool to take into account for decisions being made, both long-term and short-term expenses,” said Donna Resz, Riverside finance officer. Alderman Ron Super asked why the City of Riverside should expend city money to improve Northwood Road when “only half of Northwood Road is within Riverside city limits.” Platte County and the special road district have both been asked if they would jointly participate in a Northwood Road improvement project. Both entities declined Riverside’s invitation to participate.
