Driver loses control on ice
A man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 435 near Northwest Skyview Avenue in Platte County early Friday, March 11.
Kansas City police tell The Landmark that officers were called to the scene just after 4 a.m.
Police say a Nissan SUV was westbound when the driver lost control on ice while crossing the bridge over Second Creek. The vehicle slid off the right side of the roadway and overturned down an embankment, according to the crash report.
Police say Michael R. Smith, 37, of Kansas City, was killed at the scene.
There were three other people inside the vehicle. A 64-year-old woman was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition. The two other passengers were not injured.
Westbound traffic was reduced to one lane during the investigation and fully reopened about four hours after the crash.
