Names of crash victims released

The names of the victims in the deadly crash on Hwy. 92 in Platte County over the weekend have now been released.

On Sunday, Feb. 20, at approximately 9:47 a.m. the Platte County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a vehicle crash on Hwy. 92 near B Highway. The crash occurred as a 2003 Chrysler Town and Country minivan was traveling westbound on 92 Highway when it left the shoulder of the road, overcorrected, crossed into the eastbound lane, and collided with a 2021 Ford Edge.

The driver of the Chrysler minivan, Howard Alden, a 37-year-old male from Salina, Kan., died at the scene. Kenneth Powell, a 14-year-old male passenger in the Chrysler minivan, also died at the scene. A six-year-old male passenger and a five-year-old female passenger in the Chrysler minivan, were taken to an area hospital with moderate but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford, Mary Miller, a 67-year-old female from Platte City, was also taken to an area hospital with moderate but non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Platte County Sheriff’s Office Crash Team.
