The Missouri State Highway Patrol says troopers tried to pull over a driver on a traffic stop near U.S. 169 and Barry Road. When approached by troopers, the driver did not stop. As the driver was approaching U.S. 169 and Barry Road, his vehicle traveled off the roadway and overturned. According to the crash report by the highway patrol, the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. A Kansas City Fire Department paramedic pronounced Chavez dead at the scene, the patrol says.

Southbound lanes of 169 Highway were closed for several hours.

Troopers were assisted by the Clay County Sheriff’s Department and the Kansas City Police Department.
