Five persons suffer injuries
There was a major traffic slowdown on Interstate 29 Friday afternoon, Jan. 28, after a crash that occurred just across the Platte County line in Buchanan County.
The crash, which caused only minor injuries, involved a 2018 semi truck and a 2018 Nissan Rogue. It happened at 1:26 p.m. on southbound I-29 two miles south of Faucett, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
According to the highway patrol, Johnathan A. Nichols, 32, of Liberty, Tenn. was driving a semi southbound on I-29. Nichols attempted to avoid a slower southbound moving vehicle, a Nissan Rogue driven by Sharice L. Scott, 26, of Kansas City.
The patrol reports that Nichols rear-ended Scott’s vehicle, causing it to travel off the east side of the road and hit a guardrail. Nichols’ semi traveled off the west side of the road, overcorrected, and overturned on the road and into the median. The semi came to a rest blocking a good portion of the southbound lanes of I-29.
Northbound traffic on I-29 was also stopped for a time after the crash to allow for removal of the wrecked semi from the median.
Scott, passengers Jeanice Ross, 20, and three juveniles, ages 6, 5 and less than one year, all from Kansas City, were taken to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph with minor injuries.
Nichols did not sustain any injuries, according to the crash report.
The patrol’s crash report states that everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt.
