Everyone take a few deep breaths. The Chiefs are still good. Fortunately, that means we get to keep pulling for them for at least a few more weeks. The unfortunate news and facts are the rest of the NFL also has some good teams. The limited focus and attention on their own team by fans creates these disconnects each year. It’s like a surprise when we find out other teams have really talented players, coaches and such.
Anyway, everyone should be fully aware at this point, carry on with your fanboy fandom.
Before someone tells me to smoke a muffler or something, I am a Chiefs fan. My parents had season tickets when I was a kid and I bought season tickets for a couple of decades starting in 1989. (I’m not sure giving your money to a sports franchise puts some sort of credibility to your fandom, but it’s an oft used measuring stick).
I just aged out of in-person watching and if you didn’t live through the Marty years, you might struggle to understand the perspective you learn to have.
Chiefs’ games used to dictate my mood for the next week. I’m no longer invested to that point. I watch with interest, but I don’t get too excited or too sad when they lose. They call it maturity, but who knows, maybe I’m just a stick in the mud without any good sports fandom compass. I’d settle for either conclusion.
I offer this advice to the rabid fans; relish these days. Andy Reid is amazing. The Chiefs will be hard pressed to replace him in most of our lifetimes with anyone half as good at building a winning program.
I was honored to be a guest on a recent segment of Landmark Live with the boss man Foley and the ever-talented Brad Carl. I’ve seen a couple of clips and can confirm that I do not have the appropriate wit, charm or rugged handsome looks for video and my skill set is solidly in the paper and ink foundation.
However, I would encourage you to tune in. The production has come a long way. Foley has a full-fledged studio in the works at this point and the graphics, transitions and presentation have come a long way since he first started. My wife, who questioned who dressed me for the episode, was even impressed by the presentation, saying “the presentation was really good,” when I asked her how I did.
Anyway, it is pretty smooth and I’m looking forward to where it goes for Foley.
Here’s my wish list for his Landmark Live guests in 2022. (1) Joe McBride, Senior Marketing Manager at Kansas City Aviation Department. I want to hear about the airport. I think the switchover will be fascinating stuff. I want to hear about the facilities beyond the extra charging stations and food choices. (2) Scott Faughn, publisher of the Missouri Times, and this week in Missouri politics. This dude is among the most interesting people involved in state government. He played the role of bagman in the Eric Greitens case, and he knows the ins and outs of Jefferson City as well as anyone. He’s been vocal about masks and pandemic related items throughout the last year. (3) Eric Stonestreet. Ok. This is the big name that would be a tough get. Stonestreet owns a house and lives in Liberty area. I think Foley could lure him over to Platte City for an evening with the promise of a beer and burger at Platte City Pool Hall.
That’s my wish list. Just like all my suggestions, I’m not willing to help, I’m just saying it needs to get done by “somebody,” you guys get your own wish list and your own “somebody” that needs to do it.
