Opponents of Platte City’s latest round of involuntary annexations have placed two billboard signs along Interstate 29 within the city limits of Platte City. The signs are intended to educate Platte City’s and Platte County’s voters about the issues involved in Platte City’s involuntary annexation ballot questions on Feb. 6, 2007. Funding for the anti-annexation group is paid for by private donations, said members of the group.


Outgoing Platte County Auditor Sandra Thomas on Thursday afternoon submitted a personal check for $8,461.11 to Platte County to cover a salaries budget deficit in her department, information confirmed on Friday by an assistant in the county treasurer’s office. Thomas submitted her personal check made out to Platte County to county treasurer Bonnie Brown.


Ron Stone has filed for Ward one alderman in Platte City, bringing the total number of candidates in that race to three. Stone will oppose Tom Marquis and incumbent alderman Lee Roy Van Lew.


The Platte County R-3 School District needs to build facilities at Barry School and Siegrist Elementary School or it runs the risk of renting mobile classrooms in order to accommodate impending overcrowding at the two schools, says Superintendent Dr. Mark Harpst.
