Candidate filing opens Dec. 7
Mike Matousek has announced that he is running for a seat on the Platte County R-3 School Board. The municipal election will be held on April 5 to fill two seats.
The spots up for election are currently held by Gary Brown and Alisha Elliott. Both are three-year terms.
In a news release announcing his candidacy, Matousek said, “I’ve never had any real ambition to run for public office but I’m disappointed with decisions the school board has made and I think parents and students in this area deserve better.”
While Matousek has been vocal against mask and vaccine mandates, he’s also concerned about curriculum in schools.
“I believe in local control and parents having a seat at the table,” said Matousek. “I am adamantly opposed to any national special interests trying to tell our teachers what they should be teaching.”
Matousek says he set up a campaign committee to raise money and hopes to knock on every door in the district between now and Election Day.
“I believe in myself and I believe in this cause,” said Matousek. “This campaign is going to be powered by parents and citizens who have had enough.”
Matousek resides in Platte County with his wife, Brittney, and two kids, ages six and one.
Matousek worked in Washington, D.C. for U.S. Congressman Sam Graves before moving to Platte County. Matousek currently works at a trucking trade association representing 150,000 professional truck drivers. He is a 2006 graduate of the University of Florida with a bachelor of arts in political science.
Filing for candidates at R-3 opens on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 8 a.m. and closes at 5 pm. on Dec. 28.
