30 Years Ago–November 1, 1991

The Farley State Bank in Parkville was robbed Tuesday afternoon of an undisclosed amount of cash by a man who was reportedly armed with a handgun. The robber entered the bank about 3:15 p.m. and demanded money from a teller. The four employees and one customer in the bank were ordered to lie on the floor. An immediate search began and the getaway car was spotted a short time later. Officials believe the same man may be responsible for 10 bank robberies in the Kansas City area within the last 14 months.


Voters throughout Missouri Tuesday rejected Proposition B, a $385 million tax and educational reform proposal, by a 2-1 vote and Platte County voters joined the rest of the state in soundly defeating the plan.


Dr. Mark Harpst, superintendent, has announced the West Platte School District is the recipient of free science and math educational materials as a result of a Southwestern Bell Foundation grant of $97,000. The award is to support the highly acclaimed K-6 Science and Mathematics Improvement Program (KSAM).


In brutally cold and windy weather conditions, the Maryville Spoofhounds upended the state ranked Platte County Pirates 6-0 on Saturday, ruining the Pirates’ chances for a state playoff berth.
