In 1980 the Swedish pop group ABBA released a song titled “The Winner Takes It All” where it became ABBA’s fourth and final American Top 10 hit, peaking at No. 8. In Week Five of Landmark Pickem, the winner, “DennisKohler1,” “took it all” by picking against the Chiefs and standing pat on the Ravens. Let me explain.
Prior to the Sunday Night Chiefs game, “Robertshaw” had a lock on the week’s top spot and it appeared he was going to “take it all” for a second time. For him to “take it all” in week five, all that needed to happen was for the Chiefs to win – but they didn’t. Interestingly, that resulted in a Monday Night scenario in which the then sixth-place player “Jeremy Theys” could have “taken it all” if the Colts beat the Ravens – which they almost did.
Between late Sunday and Monday there were some great swings in the top spots, and it was fun to watch the puts-and-takes of the week invoking ABBA’s “the winner takes it all, and the loser has to fall . . . . takes it all, has to fall, and it’s plain, why complain?”. The winners for Week Five in order are:
