Drive-thru flu shots offered in Platte County

Flu shot

The Platte County Health Department is once again offering two opportunities for community members to receive the flu shot.

Free drive-thru clinics will take place Thursday, Oct 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Riverside Fire Department (2990 NW Vivion Rd.) and Monday, Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Platte City Middle School (900 Pirate Dr.), while supplies last.

The flu shot will be available for those aged 9 and up. However, for those aged 65 and up, the high dose is the recommended vaccine and will be available by appointment in the Parkville location.

“We encourage members of our community to come and receive their flu shot” said Mary Jo Vernon, director, Platte County Health Department. “The drive-thru method makes it easy to receive the flu shot and become protected against the flu, protecting not only themselves but the entire community.”

As we approach flu season, the flu shot is one of the best ways to stop the spread of disease. Everyday habits to protect the health of the community include covering nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, washing hands often with soap and water, not touching the eyes, nose or mouth and staying home if sick with flu-like symptoms.
