The Platte City Friends of the Arts Visual Arts Committee and Platte County Parks and Recreation announce the upcoming Art in the Park and Plein Air Paint Out happening Friday and Saturday Sept. 24 and 25.
The Plein Air Paint Out is Friday in historic downtown Platte City from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. near the lake in Platte Ridge Park, 17130 Hwy. 371, Platte City.
This new event is in honor of Missouri’s Bicentennial and is in conjunction with the 6th Annual Art in the Park. The Art in the Park event is happening on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. near the lake at Platte Ridge Park.
“Plein Air is a much more immersive way to experience two-dimensional art. Come out and enjoy fresh air painting and see the artists in action. You won’t regret it.” stated Platte City Friends of the Arts President Dori Thomas. The final works will be auctioned off to benefit Platte City Friends of the Arts and Platte County Historical Society on Saturday at Art in the Park.
Art in the Park will have food and beverage vendors, and activities for all ages. “There will be art of all types, including visual art, music and dance,” explained Platte City Friends of the Arts Art in the Park Committee Chairperson Brenda Lino.
Art in the Park began in 2015, and is a partnership between Platte County Parks and Recreation, Platte County Community Center North/YMCA, and Platte City Friends of the Arts. The first two years the event was held in Platte Ridge Park, but in 2017 the lightning storm forced the event inside.
Art in the Park is held rain or shine. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Platte County Community Center North/YMCA at 3101 Running Horse Road, Platte City.
The Platte City Friends of the Arts began in 1999 with a small group of local volunteers who care about promoting and preserving art of all kinds in Platte County. The non-profit group produces and supports visual art shows for both school age and adults and has a variety of events throughout the year. To find out more visit plattecityfriendsofthearts.com.

Pre-registration is required by Sept. 20. For the Plein Air Paint Out Event, registration is the day of the event and can paint anytime between 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.
