45 Years Ago–September 10, 1976

Mr. and Mrs. Gary Durand announce the birth of their daughter, Emily Nichole, on Aug. 22, 1976 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kansas City. The grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. George Durand of Kansas City and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Cox of Platte City.


Sen. Walter F. Mondale, Democratic vice-presidential candidate, campaigned in Platte County Wednesday. A large crowd greeted Sen. Mondale at the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Johnston just south of Platte City. After a short tour of the farm, Sen. Mondale spoke to the group from a platform under the shade tree. After leaving the Johnston farm, the vice presidential candidate continued the campaign trail to Columbia, Mo.


Missouri Secretary of State James C. Kirkpatrick again proved himself to be a champion vote getter in the Aug. 3 primary election. Kirkpatrick is the first secretary of state in Missouri to score a clean sweep of all 114 counties and the city of St. Louis in two primary elections. The official canvass of primary returns gave the popular Kirkpatrick a better than 6 to 1 margin, with 670,300 votes to 108,478 over James Askew of St. Louis.


The Platte City Pirates lost their opening game of the 1976 gridiron season last Friday night at Richmond, 14-6. The Pirates’ only score came late in the fourth quarter on a run by David Bridger.
